I never needed to be told to clean my room as a child, it was always done. Toys and stuff animals were organized in rows, and I would tell my family and friends that “a clean room is a happy room.” I continued to refine my skills running a swim school in the backyard of my family home, where my love for connecting and helping people was sparked. After graduating university, I took on a new adventure in the world of advertising and marketing. I loved developing the strategies, creating content and seeing all the hard work come to life. And as much fun as it was, I always dreamed of trading in her side passion for organizing and making it a career.

From an early age, I was always had a passion for keeping things orderly. I could often be found helping my mom tidy up the house, setting up an organized “classroom” in the basement, or sneaking off to face the shelves at Winners. Fast forward to university years, I decided to explore Media Studies and then ventured off to Teachers College. Teaching was a rewarding career that allowed me to connect and collaborate with students, families, colleagues and school community. As a classroom teacher, my organizational skills were an integral part of my daily classroom planning and required constant fine-tuning and reflection. After 15 years, I have gradually taken a step back from teaching in search of something new.

As life-long friends, we found ourselves pivoting from our careers at the same time and discussions of our dream jobs began. During our weekly catch ups on life and parenthood, conversations about organizational hacks and routines seemed to be a consistent theme. The importance of having systems in place to deal with the constant clutter of a busy home was more apparent than ever. Through our shared passion of creating functional spaces and connecting with people - Kate and Tidy was born.
